Like with all other android devices with onscreen
navigation buttons, the galaxy s8's navigation buttons auto hide in certain
scenarios like when you are watching a movie. (show a short clip) However, in
other apps like your browser, (open google chrome and scroll down, focus on
navigation bar) the navigation buttons remain in place. This prevents you from
taking full advantage of the whole screen real estate.
Thankfully, Samsungs new touchwiz UI includes tons of
customization options from the basic wallpaper, desktop layout, as well as
minor user preferences like the navigation bar.
To set the navigation bar to auto hide, from the main
screen, swipe down to bring up the notification area and tap on the settings
icon.
Go to Display
and scroll down to navigation bar.
In this screen you will find the option to toggle the "Show and hide
button" on or off. When turned on, you will see a small dot on the left
side of the navigation area. When the dot is solid, the navigation bar is set
to always show. Tap on it once and it will toggle into an empty circle. With
this option, the navigation bar will now auto hide.
To bring up the navigation bar, simply swipe up from the
bottom of the screen. Do take note that even when the navigation bar is not
visible, you can still press on the area where the home button should be and it
should respond.
If you do not see the option to set the navigation bar to
auto hide, it is possible that your S8 might not be updated to the latest
version yet. Simply go to settings and manually check and install the latest system
update.
