Trip - Dumaguete - The Boulevard

We didn't want to waste most of our time inside our room. After all, it's not like we get to go to Dumaguete any day. We rested for a while and took a hot shower at Harold's Mansion. We then headed out to Dumaguete City's boulevard. Apart from other things, you will see there the bay walk, street vendors selling tempura, squid ball, and balot, and also the "I Love Dumaguete" sign.

Harold's Mansion room good for 2 is priced at Php800.00. The non-air conditioned rooms were priced at Php600.00.

From our hotel, we took the tricycle going to the boulevard. It was a short 5-minute trip.

Trip - Dumaguete - Harold's Ecolodge

When we got to Dumaguete, part of our itinerary was Casaroro falls. We understood there was going to be a short trek involved and, so, we decided to make it our first stop. One of a few lodges close to Casaroro falls was Harold’s Ecolodge. Hence, we initially decided to leave our things, cars, and stay there after Casaroro Falls.

I’d say you could compare the drive to the Ecolodge is the same as driving to Busay here in Cebu. It was an incline with some parts more steep than others.

The lodge looks like a cozy place. Plus, the caretaker seemed to be very accommodating. However, when we got back from our hike to Casaroro falls,we decided to go stay at a hotel instead; a place with air conditioning and a hot/cold shower. The Ecolodge, although looks cold at night, does not sport even an electric fan inside their rooms.

They have:
3 rooms good for 2 @ Php500.00.
1 room good for 4 @ Php250.00 / head

All rooms are non-air conditioned.

I'll post details of our trek to Casaroro Falls in the next blog post. So stay tuned.

Our Trip To Dumaguete

Summer is fast coming to an end. We decided to top it all off by going on a trip to Dumaguete. Aside from going on an island hopping trip, we also decided to go to Casaroro falls, and roam around Dumaguete City during the night. Hence, we decided to bring our own cars.

How much did we spend? Fuel we spent from Cebu going to Liloan, Santander port plus our trips in Dumaguete cost us Php1,500 worth of fuel. Two-way fare for the barge was a little over Php1,200. This included the car plus 4 people.

There were a few mishaps but, overall, I’d say our trip to Dumaguete was a success. I’ll be posting more details of our trip in future posts. So check back.

Logos Hope In Cebu

Logos Hope is now in Cebu. It is currently docked near Malacañang Sa Cebu. MV Logos Hope is the largest floating library hosting over 5,000 books. As what I know, it is manned by volunteers from different countries. They are open daily from 10:00AM to 9:30PM. Except on Sundays where they open 1:00PM. They will be in Cebu until May 29.

To get in to the ship, you need to pay an entrance fee of Php20 for adults. Kids below 13 years old and folks over 60 (not sure) can come in for free. There books are reasonably priced using Logos Hope units. The good thing about their units in Cebu is that it is 1 is to 1. Meaning if a book is priced at 100 units, then you need to pay Php100. Easy!.

We got there on a Sunday afternoon. The ship was very crowded and it was really hard to navigate inside. When you come in, you are required to join the short orientation before you can get it.

Here are a couple of pictures that I took:

A look from outside.

The required short orientation.

Going into the book section. As you can see, it is packed.

They also have a little play. The kids would love this.

The KIDS area.

The International Café. They have a lot of food you can choose (e.g. popcorn, ice cream).

Some volunteers (I think) singing.

This is where you get on (right) and off(left) the ship.

Travel - Maxvir Resort Oslob

When we went to Oslob to go to Maribago Sumilon Island Resort, we tried to look for a cheap place to stay. Our officemate suggested that we stay at Maxvir's resort. We were not disappointed. The owner of the resort is very accommodating and the place looks very cozy. When we went there, they had 3 air-conditioned rooms and 2 fan rooms. We decided to book their fan rooms because all air-conditioned rooms were booked. Although the room didn't have air-conditioning, it remained comfortably cool inside. Most probably because of the materials used (bamboo and nipa).

I drove my own car going to Oslob because we planned on going to different places and this saves us the hassle. But, you can get there by riding a bus. The resort is right beside the street; just in front of the KM114 post.

They have chairs outside the rooms that you can use to "chill". A dining table set is also available for you to use. And NO, they do not charge corkage for food you bring. You can even use their utensils (spoon, fork, knife, plates, cups). They also have a barbecue grill and a stove (additional Php150 to cook using the stove).

Here are a couple of pictures:

Have you been to this place? What did you think?

Food - 24 Hours Garlic Rice

24 Hours Garlic Rice is located at the Rosedale Foodcourt in Nasipit, Talamban. It is right beside UST-TC.

As the name implies, this tapsilogan is open 24 hours. When you get to the place, you are immediately greeted with their menu that's written on the front clear glass. Their prices are about just right and each order already includes drinks. I find their garlic rice delicious and you can really sense the taste/smell or garlic; even better than the garlic rice served in some more expensive restaurants. A single serving of their garlic rice is more than enough for me. Well, that depends on your appetite too.

Here are a few pictures of the place:

Watching The Whale Sharks At Oslob, Cebu

When we visited Maribago Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort, since we were already in Oslob, we decided to watch the Whale Sharks. Or, as we call it in our dialect, "Butanding".

Several resorts in Oslob offer whale watching as one of their perks. However, take note that whale watching is controlled by Oslob government and the resorts themselves are not allowed to ferry you to the spot where the whale sharks are. What they do is they drop you off to the public whale share area and you will need to register and pay there. I would recommend, if you're not staying in any of those resorts, that you just go directly to the public whale watching.

How much? No dipping in water: Php300 Dip/swim: Php500

Take note, though, that although if you pay to swim in the water with the whale sharks, you need to allow 4 meters of space between you and the whale shark. This means, you are not allowed to touch them.

Don'ts

  • Don't put on sun block
  • Don't use your camera's flash
  • Do not touch the whale sharks

Our Trip To Maribago Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort

Last weekend, my friends and I decided to go to Maribago Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort. Since we were already in Oslob, we also planned on watching the whale sharks and going to Tumalog falls. Oslob is lucky enough to have all these spots in a single location.

Since there were only 4 of us, we decided to bring my car and drive there instead of taking public transportation. It was a wise decision because the resort where we stayed for the night is about 15 minutes away from the whale watching site, Maribago Bluewater Sumilon Resort's port, as well as Tumalog falls. Another group of my friends decided to go there the next day and they had to pay Php100 per head going from the resort to the whale watching site. Add another Php100 to go from the whale watching site to Tumalog falls. And yet another Php100 to go back to the resort. And..... Another Php100 to go to Sumilon's port. That does not include the fare from Cebu to/from Oslob.

We stayed at the Maxvir resort. All of there rooms were booked except the small nipa hut. To be honest, I really liked the hut. It was cool and cozy. I liked it better than their cementer, and air conditioned, rooms. We're already used to these kind of setting in the city, why not stay at a hut for a change? Here's how the room looked like:

There's a set of table and chairs just outside the room for you to dine

The dock going

From their port in Oslob, we landed at Sumilon's public sand bar. If you are not paying to get into Bluewater resort and you want to use their restrooms, you need to pay Php20.

Sumilon's beach is just breathtaking.

Sumilon's other amenities include the pool, cottages, kayaks, marine sanctuary, etc.

Sadly, we were not able to go trekking because we were already tired. We'll come back soon.

Coco Palms Resort Danao

Last weekend, we went to the Coco Palms Resort in Danao. The place has two pools with one of the pools exclusive for the guests who booked rooms. One of the pools has the slide while the other one, the one exclusive for room guests, has no slide but is an infinity pool. Of course, those who booked rooms can still use the one with the slide.

The resort is easily accessible since it is just on the side of the road. Here are a couple of pictures from the place.

A view of the main pool.

Another view of the pool facing the resorts main building (entrance, reception area, restaurant)

The infinity pool.

The other side of the infinity pool facing the deluxe rooms.

The sign that says the pool area is only exclusive to room guests. However, that's the only thing stopping people with no room reservations from taking a dip. No one is manning/guarding the pool. However, the pool stays "less" crowded.

This is beside the exclusive pool. They only serve drinks here.

Their water park, or what's left of it.

They also have kayaks for rent.
